Sylvia P. Smith 98 Oblong, Illinois died Tuesday October 9, 2001 at Ridgeview

Care Center in Oblong, IL. Sylvia was born February 5, 1903 in Jasper County,

Illinois. She was the daughter of Frank Brownfield and Sarah Ann (Miller)

Brownfield. On February 9, 1921 she married Clarence Ray Smith who died in

May 1944. Sylvia was a homemaker, member of Oblong Wesleyan Church,

known for her Spanish Cream pies, cakes, chicken & noodles. Her hobbies

included Quilting and Sewing.

 

Sylvia is survived by 5 daughters and sons-in-laws Charlotte Bennett, Carol S.

Myers, Retha & Pete Spaugh, Roanna & John Spencer and Gracie & Arthur

Good; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 32 great great grandchildren;

1 brother-in-law Zay Smith and several nieces and nephews. Sylvia was

preceded in death by her parents, husband, Infant daughter Karen Elaine

Brownfield; 2 sisters Bertha Shryock and Dessie Wright; 4 brothers Earl,

Curtis, Bert & Byrl Brownfield, 1 grandson Stephen Spencer who was killed

in Vietnam, and 1 Great Grandson Brian Keith Lackey.

 

Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery.
